Son,
Meaning in the Old Testament that in modern times, and that is also reflected in idiomatic expressions used in the New Testament.
The meanings are:
*Teen boy 1st generation (Gen 16:15;. Etc.).
*Grandson. For example: Jehu, son of Jehoshaphat and grandson of Nimshi (2 Kings 9: 2), also called the "son of Nimshi" (v 20).
*Descended from a famous ancestor, regardless of the number of intermediate generations. Thus, Joseph, the earthly father of Jesus, was called "son of David" though he lived 10 centuries later (Mt. 1:20). "Although we must noting that in Hebrew theology scholars say the direct descendant of King David is Mariam Mother of Jesus"
*Adoptive son (Ex. 2:10).
*Kindly way an older person goes to a younger friend, a disciple or a colleague (1 Samuel 26:17, 21, 25; 2 Samuel 18:22; 1 Tim 1:18;. 2 Ti. 2: 1).
*Tribesman or group of people (Neh. 12:23). For example, Ez. 25: 4 says "the East" when the Hebrew text expresses "sons of the East"; the NIV version, instead of "sons of the Greeks" (as in Hebrew and RVR Jl. 3: 6), says "the Greeks". In many similar cases in the plural "children" women and girls are included.
*Member of a professional group or guild. For example: "the sons of the prophets" (1 Kings 20:35; 2 Kings 2: 3) or "sons of the singers" (Nehemiah 12:28; "singers" BJ.).
*A city citizen: "The sons of Zion" (Lm 4: 2.) Or "Jericho" (Ezra 2:34.). As in paragraph 6, "children" can include women and girls.
*Person having a quality: "Son of peace" (Luke. 10: 6).
*Follower faithful: "Sons of YHVH Almighty God" (Genesis 6: 2.).
*Celestial being, created by God Almighty YHVH; ergo, an angel
(Job 1: 6; 2: 1).
*Product spiritual birth or adoption; Christians become "sons" and "daughters" of God through faith (Rom 8:14, 15, 23,. etc.).
